Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most sought-after actors that we have in Bollywood today. Movies like Gangs of Wasseypur, Talash and Kahaani among others were the turning points of his career as he came into limelight with these films. But, did you know that Siddiqui appeared in many films like Shool, Sarfarosh, Aaja Nachle, and others in small roles? He is an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), yet he never shied away to do small appearances. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, the actor revealed that he took up those roles as he needed money to survive. Nawaz happens to be a farmer’s son, so he had seen struggles, financial crisis and after coming to the industry, he was fully prepared of the difficulties.

He said, “Zyada se zyada bura kya hoga? Do din khana nahi milega. Teesre din koi na koi toh, jaise bohot sare log NSD ke rehte the, bohot sare dost rehte the, unke ghar pe chale jate the. Woh halaat dekh ke khila hi deta tha.”

Nawaz recalled that he didn’t get payment for his roles and Shool (starring Raveena Tandon and Manoj Bajpayee) was among one of those films. He said he didn’t get Rs. 2500 till date. He added, “But I remember this because I went to the office for 6-7 months for Rs 2500. I didn’t get those, but yes I used to get food. What I did smartly later was that I used to reach at lunchtime at their office. So looking at my condition they used to ask, ‘Khaana khayega?, paise toh nahi milenge but khaana khaale aaja.’ So like that I ate food for 1 and half month so my money was paid that way.”

The Haraamkhor actor also spoke about battling rejections, facing racism in the TV industry and a lot more.

On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Heropanti 2 that has Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria. It is all set to hit the screens on April 29.
