Deepika Padukone is all set to share the screen space with actor-husband Ranveer Singh in Kabir Khan’s upcoming film ’83. This will be the couple’s first film together post marriage. And it was only recently when Deepika had unveiled her first look from this sports-drama. In the film, Deepika will be playing Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev.
Watching her with Ranveer is always a delight and this time her new look became the talk of the town. However, the actress’ caption raised a few eyebrows. Netizens are not happy with the way Deepika wrote, “The film is an ode to every woman to outs her husband’s dream before her own.” They think this glorifies patriarchy.
Sharing the first look picture from ’83, Deepika wrote, “To play a small part in a film that captures one of the most iconic moments in sporting history has been an absolute honour!83 for me is an ode to every woman who puts her husband’s dream before her own…”

The leggy beauty’s caption didn’t go down well with a section of the netizens and soon they reminded the actress that we are not living in 83 so why promote patriarchy.
Slamming the actress, one user wrote, “We aren’t in ’83 anymore. Patriarchy is dying; let’s look for those husbands who put their wife’s dream before their own, in the new millenia? (sic)”
Whereas another said, “This glorification of stories where a woman “puts her husband’s dream before her own” is exhausting. I am tired of having to see women give up their own dreams and aspirations for their husbands, and I am even more tired of the cinema industry acting as if it’s a good thing.”

good god, "every woman who puts her husband’s dream before her own" has been happening since the dawn of time and needs to stop. NOW.

Just to promote the film such a backward chatter. How annoying.

I don't quite agree with every woman putting her dream before the one's her husband has. It's an ancient school of thought. Please don't squash the dreams of millions of girls who dream to be like you one day. Stop making them feel that at the end of the day they won't matter.

We don't need women to put their dreams on the back burner. Agree the movie is set in the '80s but her sacrifice is not her achievement. Romanticising the idea of a woman behind a man is common practice in Indian cinema, please let's not glorify it for the sake of promotion.

Netizens are unhappy about the fact that the film will glorify that woman sacrificing their dreams for the families is a good thing. We wonder what Deepika will have to say about this now.
Coming back to the film ’83, it also features Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Ammy Virk, Hardy Sandhu, and Chirag Patil among others. It is scheduled to hit the silver screens on April 10.
