Singer Nikhita Gandhi recently had a candid conversation with us where she spoke about her new song ‘Kamli’, her musical journey, gave some valuable advice to the newcomers and spoke a lot more about her life and career. While talking about ‘Kamli’, Nikhita said, “It was recorded during the lockdown. Bharat Goel called me during the lockdown and asked me to do it. So, I recorded at my home and sent it to him and I am feeling very happy that a non-filmy song is getting so much attention.”

After pursuing a degree in dentistry, Nikhita followed her passion for music. Since childhood, music has always been a part of her life as a kid growing up in Kolkata. “I have learned dance, music all through my childhood and all of that really made me an artistic person and brought art in my life. Every new place that I have moved to, every chapter in my life helped that process grow. In Chennai, I got exposed to new composers, new languages and it definitely opened my eyes a lot more to more genres of music. I did a part-time course in AR Rahman’s sir K. M. College of Music and Technology and that’s where I met sir as well. That’s where my professional singing journey began. It has been incredible because every new and artistic person I met, they always have something new to offer and teach,” said the ‘Raabta’ singer.

Nikhita also gave some really valuable advice to the outsiders and those who are new to the industry. She said, “It is very important to look at the bigger picture. You might have a horrible day today, but it might get better the next day. You can’t measure your life based on how you are feeling at the moment. You might have a horrible month or a year also. It a process and patience is the only way to keep your sanity. Also, you should have faith in yourself. At the end of the day, you have to know it is a comparative field and people will always try to say that you are not good enough and it is important to have own self-respect and know yourself. Even I don’t have a family in the music industry. I had my own journey.”
