The Delhi gang-rape case of 2012 has finally come to its end after a long wait as four convicts were hanged in the wee hours of Friday (March 20) at Tihar Jail. The convicts’ petitions were dismissed hours before their execution as they appealed to get an extension for two months. The Nirbhaya case had got a lot of attention from the entire nation and everyone was waiting for justice to be served.
The 23-year-old physiotherapy student (Nirbhaya), who was brutally gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi in 2012. She died days later in a Singapore hospital. Her family has finally got justice. Her father, Badrinath Singh, addressing the media outside Tihar Jail on Friday morning said, “Today is our victory and it happened because of media, society & Delhi police. You can understand what is inside my heart by my smile“.
Whereas Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi, was equally happy as she said, “As soon as I returned from Supreme Court, I hugged the picture of my daughter and said today you got justice.”
All the four convicts -Akshay Thakur, 31, Pawan Gupta, 25, Vinay Sharma, 26, and Mukesh Singh, 32, were hanged around 4 am today.
Bollywood celebrities too expressed their happiness about justice finally being served as they took to their social media to express their thoughts. Rishi Kapoor tweeted saying, “Nirbhaya Justice. “Jaisi karni waisi bharni” Let this set an example not only in India but world over. Punishment for rape is by death. You have to respect womanhood. Shame on the people who delayed the execution. Jai Hind!”

While she was happy about the verdict, she wished it would have happened sooner.

Well, even though the wait was immensely long, but Nirbhaya and her parents have finally got the justice they deserved.
