Renowned art director, Nitin Desai passed away on 2 August at the age of 57. His untimely and tragic death left the members of the industry in a state of shock. He was reportedly found hanging in his own studio. His last rites are taking place today, August 4 as his family arrived from USA. He is survived by wife Neha and their three children – a son and two daughters.
Celebs arrive to pay last respect at Nitin Desai’s funeral
Several pictures and videos from the funeral are doing rounds on the internet. The funeral of late art director Nitin Desai was performed at his ND Studio in Kajrat. His mortal remains were kept on the set of Jodha Akbar for darshan. Among the big names who arrived to pay their last respect to the National-Award winning art director are Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowariker, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar.
Apart from them, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was also spotted at the last rites. Madhur Bhandarkar and Manoj Joshi were also seen offering condolences to the bereaved family.

Desai had a number of acclaimed movies to his credit including Lagaan, Khamoshi, Devdas, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and more. Reportedly, he was facing financial challenges and had defaulted on a loan of Rs. 252 crores just a week before his tragic death. The police conducted the post-mortem procedure and a note and recording was recovered.
A source revealed more about this to a news portal and said, “It was planned properly by ND. Last night he took all the keys from the security and told his boy to leave him alone at the Studio as he has some important work to be done. ND came to see him off the gate and asked him to come next morning around 8:30 am. He also asked him to see the recording which he said he will find in Studio at 10.”
“At night, on the sets of Marathi Pavool Padte Pudhe, Studio number 10, he drew a bow and arrow with sutli, he placed a ladder on the bow and arrow, and hung himself.”
