Omung Kumar‘s wife Vanita made her debut as a director with a short film ‘Ave Maria’ which deals with the issue of child abuse in India. The main motive behind the movie is to create awareness about child abuse and show the importance of communication. The movie was produced by Banijay Asia and Omung Kumar. The movie has been sent to many film festivals.
Vanita spoke to us and told that she has a few close friends who had gone through abuse when they were a child. She said, “I have lots of friends who have gone through abuse or the other. Still today they haven’t spoken about it to their parents thinking about the repercussions.”
Vanita also spoke about the support and encouragement she got from her husband while making the film. She said, “He kept encouraging me and asked me not to stop. He loved the way I thought about the film as it was offbeat.”
Omung has seen a low phase as a few films of him didn’t do well at the box-office. When questioned how both deal with the low phases of their career, Vanita said, “First and foremost we have been working together since we were in college. We have come across the hard way. We got married with our own money. So, we know how hard it is. If a film flops, that’s the part and parcel of the journey. You know you have given your best and everybody has a different opinion about it and you can’t please everyone. If you try to please everyone, it will ruin you. If we get a few good comments, we feel that we have achieved something. We think like, “Utho aur aage jao”. I have learnedt a lot from Omung as he never gets disappointed and life will be disappointing if you keep on harping on failures.”

When we asked Vanita if she is planning to make a movie, Vanita said, “Two-three years down the line I am planning to do a full-fledged film and I will do it on my own.”
We wish Vanita good luck for her future endeavors.
