On Rakhi, this message from Akshay Kumar’s sister is a true eye-opener

While across the country, sisters are tying the bond of love to their brothers and praying for their lasting health and happiness, we came across this video posted by Akshay Kumar on Twitter. He captioned it as #DirestDilSe; and after watching it, we know why.

The video has Akshay’s sister Alka fondly narrating the story of her childhood. Just like other families, even in hers, she was asked to be accompanied by Akshay whenever there was a late night party. But the stubborn brother would say, “learn to protect yourself”. Who has counted how many parties did Alka miss due to this!

But today, amid a time of crisis as we women struggle to retain our own security and uplift the treatment given to us, Alka exactly knows what her brother meant. (Also Read: When Akshay Kumar left an interview midway, thanks to Bhumi Pednekar!)

It is now known to all that Akshay is a strong advocate of self-defence for women. He has also come up with a class on the same where women are taught tactics of basic self-defence. He has even urged women to take the issue seriously.

“In our country, I believe, girls should not learn martial arts or self-defence because I feel they should be free to walk anywhere, anytime, anyplace. But unfortunately, because of some dirty people they have to learn self-defence,” he earlier said.

Now we well know, the idea was an old one! 🙂

Do you remember last to last year’s Raksha Bandhan video that the brother-sister duo had shared? We surely had laughed out loud on that one. And this year, instead of a hearty laugh, they have gifted us a hearty thought. Indeed, the right to protect oneself is a better gift than protection itself.
