Padma Awards 2024: Chiranjeevi, Vyjayantimala get conferred with India’s second-highest civilian honour, Mithun Chakraborty bags Padma Bhushan

The government of India announced the Padma Awards on the occasion of Republic Day. People in arts, education, industry, literature, science, acting, medicine, social service and public affairs received India’s second-highest civilian honours after Bharat Ratna. From the world of Indian cinema, Vyjayantimala, Chiranjeevi, Mithun Chakraborty, singer Usha Uthup, actor-politician Vijayakanth, composer Pyarelal Sharma and Padma Subrahmanyam were among 132 recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards for the year 2024.

Talking about the recipients, with illustrious career in Indian Cinema, these artist have brought significant change in the field. Chiranjeevi is one of the most popular stars from the South cinema. He has worked in over 150 feature films in several languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada. Interestingly, Chiranjeevi was also previously honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2006.

Meanwhile, Vyjayantimala is regarded as the first female superstar in Indian cinema. She starred in several notable films, including Devdas, Naya Daur, Sadhna.

Mithun Chakraborty, Usha Uthup honoured with Padma Bhushan

Apart from her, Mithun Chakraborty, Usha Uthup and Pyarelal Sharma of music duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, have been awarded Padma Bhushan.

Besides them, late Tamil actor and politician Vijayakanth, has been posthumously recognised with Padma Bhushan for his service. He died in December 2023.
