Ever since the CBFC asked makers of Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus to be renamed to ‘Padmaavat’ from ‘Padmavati’, we’ve been awaiting an official release date for the same. News of the film clashing with Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’ soon started floating. However, there wasn’t an official confirmation yet.

Now, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has confirmed that the film will release on 25th of January, in Imax 3D format.

“Padmaavat is a dream come true for me. I have always been fascinated by the stories of honor, valor and vigor of our great Rajput warriors that have been captured so beautifully in our literature and this movie is my homage to those glorious stories. I would also like to thank the entire film fraternity for supporting Viacom18 and Bhansali Productions through the entire production and pre-release phase and hope they like the film they so supported,” said director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film, right from its inception, has attracted controversies for alleged faulty portrayal of Rajput community and mythical queen Padmavati.

It stars Deepikma Padukone as Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as her on-screen husband Raja Raval Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as antagonist Alauddin Khilji.
