Padmavati controversy

The release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ seems to be in a fix. With the aggressive protest going on against the film, one wonders whether the film would be able to make it to the theatres on the stated date. As an update on the same, even though Karni Sena is carrying out a violent protest against the film by vandalising theatres, the members of Sarv Samaj Protest Committee called for a peaceful protest in Rajasthan.

As per the reports, protesters blocked the entry to Chittorgarh fort in order to show their angst against this film. Ranjit Singh, a member of Sarv Samaj Protest Committee has been quoted, “We have closed the first gate known as Padan Pol gate since 10 a.m. We are not allowing anyone to enter the fort. It is a peaceful protest and will continue till 6 p.m.”

“We have just started our protest and around 400-450 people are sitting on dharna outside the gate. The number is likely to increase as the day progresses,” said  K.K. Sharma, yet another member from the committee. (Also Read: SHOCKING! Karan Johar chooses to keep mum on the ‘Padmavati’ controversy)

History states that Rani Padmini used to live in Chittorgarh fort and hence, the agitation here. It is a heritage site and thousands of tourists visit the fort every day. Apparently, it is for the first time since independence that the entry to the fort has been blocked.

Karni Sena has been aggressively calling for a ban on the film and has even sent threats to Deepika Padukone who plays the titular role in the film. They had said that they would slash off Deepika’s nose while behead Sanjay Leela Bhansali if the film gets a release.
