Padmavati: No release in Madhya Pradesh, says CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

There seems to be no end to the problems and issues faced by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team of epic period drama ‘Padmavati’. After a series of controversies to recent death threats to actress Deepika Padukone and director Bhansali, the ‘Padmavati’ row is getting worse with each passing day. Following the ongoing controversy, today Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that the film will not be released in the state. The reason behind this decision is that the film allegedly distorts facts from the history about Rani Padmavati.

Chouhan has made this announcement after meeting a delegation of Rajput leaders, including the members of Karni Sena which has led violent protests against the film. He (Chouhan) has said that a film which has distorted facts about Rajput Rani Padmavati and shows or says anything to disrespect her, will not be released in Madhya Pradesh. (Also Check: Padmavati Row: Aditi, Arjun, Parineeti, Varun question the government’s silence)

“The insult will not be tolerated,” said Chouhan. He even said if the movie is passed by the Censor Board for release in the country, it won’t make it to the screens in the state.

Well, even after a number of clarifications that have been released, we can only pray that the filmmaker and the actress are safe from any harm.

Recently, the makers of ‘Padmavati’ have even confirmed that the release of the film has been delayed. The film will now not release in theatres as planned on December 1. The new release date is yet to be confirmed and announced officially. The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.
