Senior actor Paresh Rawal is the latest celeb to comment on the entire ‘Padmavati’ fiasco and he made a derogatory comment against the Royals. For those who don’t know, the actor-turned-politician passed a comment against the Royals recently at an election campaign in Rajkot. It so happened that while remembering Sardar Patel, he compared Raja (Royals) and Vaja (Music) to monkeys (Vandra). The comment wasn’t received well by the Rajput community and the members of the Karni Sena warned him for the same.
Now, the actor has finally apologised for his comments by saying that he didn’t mean to hurt the sentiments of the Rajput community. He said, “I apologise unconditionally to all the members of Rajput community. I don’t know why I spoke those words. I never intended to hurt sentiments of any community.” Now that he has apologised, we hope that the Karni Sena forgives him for his comments.
Even if the members of Karni Sena plan to forgive Mr Rawal, they are in no mood to let go the angst built up inside their hearts due to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama ‘Padmavati’. For those clueless on the history of controversies surrounding the movie, it all started when Sena members discovered that the shooting of the movie was happening in Jaipur where a huge set was erected for the same in January. They vandalised the sets and even slapped the director Bhansali who was on the set at the time. (Also Read: Padmavati: Are the protests justified? Pulkit Samrat opens up)
Next, they reached Kolhapur where the shooting was taking place and burned the sets and clothes too. After that, there was a silence for sometime but not for too long. As soon as the trailer of ‘Padmavati’ was released, they once again started with their threats and their sole reason for the threats was distortion of historical facts. They were of the opinion that SLB is distorting history by showing romantic dream sequence between Ranveer Singh’s character of Alauddin Khilji and Deepika Padukone’s character of Rani Padmini.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali clarified the same in a video where he stated that there is no interaction between Khilji and Padmavati in the movie. Soon, all the lead actors Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor also clarified the same. But, Deepika’s one statement that nothing can stop the movie from releasing irked them all the more and they asked for a blanket ban on the movie. Following this, some leaders also asked for a ban on the movie and announced a huge amount of Rs 10 crore to anybody who beheads Bhansali or burns Deepika alive.
The movie, on the other side, wasn’t cleared by the CBFC due to technical issues, however, the British Board of Film Certification cleared the movie for the UK audience. Now, the release date of the movie stands deferred and it won’t be releasing on December 1 as planned. So much for just a movie! We only hope that these controversies and arguments die a slow death and the movie releases soon.
