The woes for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ is seeing no end. The latest development in the row is that the lead actress of the film Deepika Padukone has received threats from the Karni Sena who have been relentlessly protesting against the period drama for alleged distortion of facts in the film. The threats came in response to Deepika’s recent statement, and the Karni Sena has threatened to ‘chop off her nose and behead Bhansali’.
While we are yet to see any reaction from the film’s team, Union Minister Uma Bharti has been the first one to condemn the unjustified act.
In a series of tweets, she maintained that while we stand for the respect of Queen Padmavati, we need to respect every woman. She went on to say that attack on the actors/actresses is not justified as they have little to do with the story of the film that has allegedly distorted historical facts and hence hurt public sentiments.
If we are talking about the respect of #Padmavati, then it is our moral obligation that we respect every woman.— Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 16, 2017
Disrespect of the actress or actor of #Padmavati is uncalled for and immoral.— Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 16, 2017

4. The director and his associate as the scriptwriter of #Padmavati are responsible for its story. They should have taken care of the sentiments and the historical facts.

Uma Bharti, however, is confident that the Censor Board will take care of all the issues raised about the film.
6. I have been assured that Censor Board will take care of all the issues being raised. I am confident that they are already informed about the concerns being raised by the people. #Padmavati

Film Censor Board is an independent organisation. We expect that the film will be cleared taking the sentiments of people into consideration.— Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 16, 2017
I appeal the artists who have acted in the film to not become a party. Its story is the responsibility of director & scriptwriter #Padmavati— Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 16, 2017

Meanwhile, further developments suggest that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has bowed down to the pressure and requested the CBFC for a pre-screening of the film to the groups that are objecting against the content of his film, so that the film gets its due certification in time.
