Today, the day started with a shocking incident when a dead body was discovered hanging in Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur. And what even more disturbing was the fact that along with the body, a message had been engraved which read, “We don’t burn effigies. We kill.” This clearly indicated that this was a threat over ‘Padmavati’ which had now been executed in a cold-blooded manner. The negativity around filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus is now sending shock waves as state after state is banning it amongst massive protests. But, amongst all the bad things that are coming in the way of this epic period drama, the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has said that her state was ready to welcome the film and its crew.
It was during her visit at the India Today Conclave East where in response to a query whether her state would welcome the film’s crew for a premiere at a time when many states have banned the same, she replied, “Yes we would welcome them. They are welcome here if they can’t do it in other states. We can make special arrangements.” (Also Read: Padmavati row: Kapil Sharma is scared to share his views)
“Bengal will be very happy,” added Mamata Banerjee.
Several organisations across the country have been opposing the release of the movie ever since it went on floors citing the fact that the movie distorts history and maligns the image of their revered queen. However, the makers have time and again tried to pacify them, to no avail.
The film stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor playing the lead roles. It was originally supposed to release on December 1, but has been postponed for an indefinite period by the makers now.
