Pahlaj Nihalani strikes again, and this time, on ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. This Karan Johar movie, which was already facing lot of issues owing to the presence of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, which led to its ban (which has been lifted now), has been given a U/A certificate.
Reportedly, the exhibitors are not that happy with the rating, and the cuts that have been demanded by the CBFC.
When Pahlaj Nihalani, the CBFC chief, was approached on the same, he said, “We are following guidelines. Aamir Khan, James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Ranbir Kapoor are intense actors. They also kiss intensely. We can’t have kids watching elaborate kissing scenes unless we want to educate them on the art of deep kissing. When producers want a U/A certificate for their film, the intensity of intimacy has to be toned down for younger viewers. (But) If you have an A certificate, you are entitled to kiss to your heart’s content.”
He subsequently went on to even deny the rumours that the list of leaks in the movie has been leaked online. He said, “What is there to be leaked? It’s information in and on the public domain. Go to the CBFC website and you can see cuts for every film,” says Nihalani, adding that this translates to exhibitors becoming aggressive with a film’s producers. “Now, exhibitors are agitated because (actor) Anushka Sharma’s kisses have been reduced in length. They feel it’s taking away from public interest. I had placed a two-week time-embargo on the censored cuts being placed on the website. But now the embargo is lifted.”

Well, this is certainly not the first time that CBFC has come under fire for being too regressive and censoring scenes which are essential to the plot, just because they were considered offensive or had n*de content. No matter how tastefully a love making scene or kiss or even a n*de scene is shot, seems like it never can appeal to our sanskaari Censor Board.
Anyway, what has been cut and what not, we can only see when ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ hits the theatres this October 28.
