Pankaj Tripathi addresses Bollywood’s obsession with sequels; says, “To make a franchise, a hit film isn’t all you need”

Actor Pankaj Tripathi impressed the audiences in 2024 with stellar performances in a variety of projects such as Main Atal Hoon, Stree 2, Mirzapur and more. The actor recently got candid about Bollywood’s obsession with making film sequels or making a film franchise. Read on to know all he said.

As reported by Hindustan Times, during a recent chat, Pankaj Tripathi got candid about Stree 2’s success and how it effected him. The ‘Mirzapur’ actor said, “It is a thing of great joy that a film of such a nominal budget became such a big blockbuster. Par ye success se aapka dimaag kharab nahi hona chahiye. Ek thehraav rehna chahiye”

Further, Tripathi got candid about films being part of a franchise and how this association helps the project work better at the box office. He said, “The happiness audience got after watching the first part, played a huge role in bringing the audience to theatre for the sequel in the first weekend itself. Otherwise, people wait for the weekend to get over to know the reviews and the performance, but for franchise films that isn’t the case.”

However, Pankaj – who has been part of franchises which have been both hits and misses, spoke about what’s needed to make a franchise a success. He said, “To make a franchise, a successful film isn’t all you need. You need a unique film for that. Sometimes a film is successful but not unique. Stree fit in both the requirements. So, that is also a factor.”
