The much-anticipated film OMG 2, starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, is scheduled for release this weekend. While we have been eagerly anticipating the movie’s release, the Indian censor board has assigned it an A certificate. Interestingly, in the UAE and Oman, the film has received a 12+ age certification without any cuts. The central plot of OMG 2 revolves around raising awareness about the lack of sex education among adolescents in India. During a recent promotional event, Pankaj Tripathi expressed his disappointment over receiving an ‘adults only’ certification for the film.
Pankaj Tripathi expresses his disappointment on OMG 2 getting an ‘adults only’ certification
Pankaj, who portrays the character Kanti Sharan Mudgal, has shared that the film is intended for viewers aged 12 to 17. He remarked, “When we got an A certificate, we got surprised. This is because while making a film, we know whether or not a film will get an A certificate, (for example,) Gangs Of Wasseypur. When we were making it, we knew that it will get an Adults Only certificate. However, when we were making OMG 2, we didn’t think that it will get such a rating. Iss film ko A milna, surprise tha humare liye. Thoda malaal hua ki jis age-group ko yeh film dekhni chaiye, 12-17 saal ke, woh nahi dekh payenge (For me it was a surprise. I was a bit disappointed, as the target age group of 12-17 years old won’t be able to see the film).” This was quoted by a report in DNA.
He further added, “I believe there should be a category between U/A (Universal/Adult) and A (Adult) classification. Just as the Censor Board has introduced the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, I hope they consider making certain changes in the certification process as well. It’s unfortunate that the individuals who should be watching the film won’t be able to do so.”
