Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor are being widely applauded for their performance in the movie Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. The movie had a theatrical release, but it fell prey to the second wave of Covid-19. But, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar managed to garner a lot of praise as the fans were in awe of Parineeti and Arjun’s performance. In an exclusive chat with us, we asked the cast and directed Dibakar Banerjee some fan questions. One of them was about the prep that went behind the ‘bank scene’ which was quite intense. Decoding the scene Parineeti said that the scene was quite creepy in nature and she made sure to follow the directors’ word.
Parineeti said, “I blindly followed what Dibakar Sir told me. Even bigger than Dibakar sir was my co-star Sukant. I think he was a masterpiece of casting. Because of the baby innocent look that he has, you almost want to protect him. So I start the scene by saying that so sorry I’m wasting your time but I’ll be out of here in a jiffy because that’s what we do, even as women we trust everybody and we tell everybody that you’re a good person I’m gonna help you and he turns out to be a rapist. So it’s such a brilliantly creepy hauntingly goosebumpy scene. I have to say something about the dialogues very quickly in the scene because they were so helpful that we just had to execute the scene. Things like, ‘Ma’am meh aapko touch nai karunga, ma’am don’t worry’. The moment he says, ‘Ma’am meh aapko touch nai karunga’ you are convinced woh aapko touch karega. The moment he says, ‘Why can’t I come close to you?’ You immediately feel like Oh my God this man is going to do something. The sweeter he is, the scared you get so honestly, I can’t take any credit.”
Dibakar intervened and said, “What do you mean, you can’t take any credit so I’ll tell you where you should get the credit. That shot where the close up happens where she lifts her attire. We were not showing her body we were showing her face; you should go back and see that scene again. I didn’t say anything in that, that Parineeti did herself.” Arjun Kapoor added. “The submission and the decision of saying that, ‘I can’t get out.’ At what point that acceptance of Sandeep where she has to accept that she is a woman stuck in a situation, not a person.”
Arjun Kapoor added, “There is also a genius beat of writing that kind of sums up perception in India. The bank manager says, “Ma’am have you seen Jab We Met?’ That is actually the quintessential, on the run, boy-girl, it is the absolute paradox of Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’.”
