Actress Payal Ghosh recently accused filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment, as she revealed that he had tried to force himself on her in 2014. While Anurag has denied all these claims and called them baseless, Payal has said that she will be filing an official complaint against the filmmaker at Oshiwara Police station in Mumbai today.
In an interview with ABP News, Ghosh said, “My advocate will file the complaint today. Most possible in the evening but I can’t confirm the time.” The actress added that she is well aware that she will not get any support from the film industry. “I expect support from the state government, central government, and the public in India. I won’t get support from the film industry since he provides bread and butter to many. This is the reason they are supporting him,” she added.
Talking about the incident based on which she has leveled sexual harassment allegations on Anurag, Payal said that it happened during the filming of ‘Bombay Velvet’ in 2014. She had visited Kashyap’s office to meet his manager and then visited his home where she said she was treated very well. It was second time around when she was called to the filmmaker’s house when she allegedly faced the horrific situation.
The actress said, “I had talked to my manager the very next day and he also supported me. But at the time I was new in the industry and I was worried how it will affect my career.”
Tweeting about the same from her Twitter handle, Payal wrote, “People who are saying that it’s for politics and that I am misusing the situation. Imagine ( god forbid) your sister or daughter in my position, it can even be the mother.. and then let’s talk. You would go to war against such men. Isn’t it ? PERIOD!!”
In another one, she wrote, “People blame women for everything and post smash the patriarchy. It’s time to stand with the women. Let them be heard. A voice suppressed is a generation of women oppressed. It’s 2020. Come on, India! #MeToo”

Dismissing Payal’s allegations Anurag had claimed that they are malicious and dishonest. HIs lawyer’s statement reads, “My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply pained by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that a social movement as important as the #metoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination. Fictitious allegations of this nature seriously undermine the movement and seek to unconscionably trade upon the pain and trauma of actual victims of sexual harassment and abuse. My client has been advised about his rights and remedies in law and intends to pursue them to the fullest extent – Priyanka Khimani(sic).”
