On September 23, Payal Ghosh lodged an FIR at the Versova police station, accusing filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexually assault. In one of her interviews, she also named Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Mahie Gill. Later, Richa filed a defamation suit against Payal for making a “false, baseless, indecent and derogatory” statement against her and also sought monetary compensation for the defamation.
Payal had later agreed in the court to apologise to Richa but later, she shared on social media that she will not. On Monday, there was the hearing of the defamation case filed by Richa. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, during the hearing, Payal’s lawyer told the Bombay High Court that the actress is ready to apologise to Richa provided certain conditions be accepted.
Payal’s lawyer Nitin Satpute said, “After settling this matter, the plaintiff (Richa) should not file any criminal case against Payal. After the last hearing, the plaintiff made certain statements to the media saying she has won the case. This has resulted in Payal being trolled on social media. But, we would like to settle the matter.”
Satpute further said that he will finalise the consent terms with Richa’s lawyer. The court granted two days’ time to Richa and Payal to arrive at a decision, and it also said that no further time would be given on Wednesday (October 14) to file the consent terms.
