Lata Mangeshkar passed away yesterday February 7 at the age of 92. She was nothing less than a national treasure and at her funeral, we saw the who’s who of the country come to pay their last respects. Also, arriving at Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral was superstar Shah Rukh Khan along with his manager. SRK and his manager were seen praying while they worshipped the mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar. Shah Rukh Khan read a dua, pictures of which went viral all over the internet. Not just that, what also spread like wildfire on the internet was a tweet by a politician who is the state in-charge of BJP Haryana, Arun Yadav. In the tweet, he asked if Shah Rukh Khan was spitting on the mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar at her funeral.

Arun took to his Twitter account and sharing a video of SRK reading his dua, he wrote, “Kya isne thuka hai (Did he spit)?” SRK was seen taking his round praying and then he lowered his mask and ‘blew’ at the end. He did not spit. What question could be answered simply by google went viral on Twitter but what came later was astonishing. The politician received major backlash on Twitter when netizens made sure to let him know that it is a ritual of the prayer and that the politician needs to get his facts checked; and he was not spitting on the body but instead blowing to ward off negative energy because that is how a dua is done.

Netizens replied to the tweet saying, “Unreal that ppl actually think one of the most prominent figures in India spat on the mortal remains of a Bharat Ratna in full media glare”, another wrote, “Cannot comprehend the level of bitterness of those saying he is spitting.”, “Even a condolence prayer they can’t accept graciously. What a pathetic people.”

For the ones still asking the question, ‘Did he Spit?’ No, he did not. It is a ritual of the Muslims as a measure to ward off negative energy and bless with the prayer that has been read by the person and it is in no way spitting. Couldn’t this all be avoided by just googling the question? But is has been answered by the Twitterati anyway.
