Megastar Rajinikanth attended the trailer launch event of the Mani Ratnam directorial Ponniyin Selvan 1. He was the chief guest, along with Kamal Haasan at the trailer launch event that took place on Tuesday. During the trailer launch event, Rajinikanth spoke about the characters in the movie and shared his thoughts on his casting after he read the story.
Rajinikanth shared that he imagined late actor Sridevi as Kundavai when he read the story of the movie. In the upcoming movie, Trisha plays the role of Kundavai. The cast of Ponniyin Selvan 1 also features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, among others.
He even shared some more interesting facts about the movie during the event in Chennai. The megastar also revealed he wanted to be a part of the film, but Mani Ratnam turned down his request.

At the trailer launch event, the megastar shared what he thought first when he read the story of the Mani Ratnam directorial. He said, “When I read the story, I imagined Kamal as Arulmozhivarman, Sridevi as Kundavai, Vijaykanth as Aditya Karikalan and Sathyaraj as Pazhuvettaraiyar.” The film features Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhivarman and Trisha as Kundavai.
During the event, the megastar also spoke about his conversation with Mani Ratnam. He said, “I wanted to be a part of Ponniyin Selvan. Asked Mani to give me Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. I said I’ll do a special appearance. Mani asked me ‘do you want me to get bashed by your fans?‘” Rajinikanth further added, “Anyone else would have agreed, but Mani didn’t. That’s Mani Ratnam.”
Talking about PS1, the movie is all set and scheduled to release in theatres on September 30. The trailer of the film was dropped by the makers on Wednesday.
