EXCLUSIVE: Pooja Hegde reveals she was heartbroken with Mohenjo Daro’s failure, recalls not getting good offers post release

Actress Pooja Hegde made her Hindi film debut alongside Hrithik Roshan in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro in 2016. It was a mega movie but failed to live up to the hype. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Pooja revealed that Mohenjo Daro’s failure affected her a lot as she was “heartbroken”. She said, “It was Ashutosh Gowariker with Hrithik Roshan coming together after Jodhaa Akbar and UTV was producing the film. It was such a big debut. I spent two years of my life on that film and I was contractually bound not to do anything else and I got so many offers like big films but couldn’t do because of the contract. I was hoping when Mohenjo Daro releases, I am going to get good offers as it’s a big film but it didn’t do as well as expected but it made 100 crore but people expected it to do much beyond than that and we had spent a lot.”

The Radhe Shyam actress added, “Reviews were good about me but most of them were like ‘I wish we could see more of her’. Obviously, I felt bad and was really heartbroken. I cried as I spent so much into it. I put my heart and soul into it and it didn’t work out.”

She further said, “When you come from a non-filmy background, your first film becomes your audition to the world. People watch your film and they make an immediate judgement whether you are good or not good and I didn’t even had that scope for people to even make that comment. So, my second film became very important in terms of Hindi. I didn’t know what to do and at that time South was offering me some amazing films. So, I decided to go that route because what else could I have done.”

Pooja continued, “Before Mohenjo Daro the hype was there and I was getting some amazing films. As soon as the film released, it changed.”

She further said, “What was my option. Either I could cry about it or put myself in shell and be upset about it or work harder and that’s what I did. I just kept working and somewhere it paid off. I said no to lots of Hindi films that came after that because it didn’t excite me as an actor and then Housefull came.”
