It was a while back that actress Deepika Padukone opened up about her depression in public and gave courage to people across the country to get over the disorder which otherwise is not taken seriously. Thanks to the actress, more people suffering from depression got the courage to come out in the open. It sure was a huge thing to talk about and here is another popular Bollywood biggie who has opened about his clinical depression.
And it is none other than Karan Johar.
The director is all set for the release of his upcoming movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and while speaking in a candid chat for a TV channel, Karan revealed that he was going through some serious mental, emotional, and psychological issues until recently. The director said how is was going through a low phase in life and he did not want to talk to anyone.
The director-producer revealed that he used to lie about going for meetings and instead travelled alone to unknown plays just to be away from all of it. He said he used to long for lonely streets in strange lands, where there would be no possibility of seeing a familiar face.
It was only after a while that he came to know that he was suffering from clinical depression and needed medication. He then undertook both counselling sessions and medications and about months back he stopped it.
Karan also spoke about Deepika and said if this could affect someone as beautiful and successful as Deepika Padukone, depression could strive anyone, anywhere.
We are really glad that our favourite filmmaker is back to his normal cheery self, and equally happy that he chose to come out in the open about depression. It’s the need of the hour.
