The eminent designer was invited to speak at Harvard, and during the same, he made a statement which goes like this. “I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a sari, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, (you) need to stand up for it.”
Well, needless to say that the comment brought in a lot of negativity and flak for the designer. Women on social media brought in words like a storm.

However, the designer has apologised. In a long apology letter that he has posted on Instagram, Sabya has clarified that he did not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings, and it was just a statement made in some other context, as an answer to a question that was posed to him on culture.
