When Priyanka Chopra was asked to leave a film over equal pay request

Making your way in a male-dominated industry is never easy. You have to struggle a lot and make sure not to ruffle feathers if you want to survive in the glamour industry where the competition is cut-throat. Actress Priyanka Chopra has faced her share of hurdles when she entered the Bollywood with no filmy background or a godfather to support her.

While the Quantico actress doesn’t need a reason to be in limelight, off late our desi girl has been grabbing headlines thanks to her recently released memoir Unfinished. In her book, PeeCee has shared several incidents from her career and highlighted things that contributed in making her what she is today.

In one of her recent interviews, Priyanka revealed how she was once asked to leave a film when she demanded equal pay compared to her male co-star. Read on to know if the actress left the film or chose to stay her ground.

Priyanka Chopra faced this unpleasant situation very early in her career. On Skimm’d from The Couch podcast, the former Miss World opened up about how she was asked to leave the film when she questioned the producer about her nominal paycheck.

Recalling the incident, on the podcast, PeeCee said, “I have been kicked out of a movie once… Or told that I should leave. I wasn’t kicked out of it because I decided to stay and suck it (up). I was told that if I don’t take the paycheck which was nominal compared to my co-actor for almost the same amount of work… The producer told me that there are so many other girls who will take this opportunity and women in movies are interchangeable.”

The actress revealed that she chose to do the film anyway as she had to work within the system and that was the only way she could do it. Sharing how it took 15 years to reach a place where she could stand for herself, the actress further added, “It took almost 15 years for me to get to that place where, you know, I could stand my ground. It took hearing the conversations from other women banding together to give me the confidence to stand up for myself.”

PeeCee has really paved way for several other actresses. She has and will always remain an inspiration for every aspiring actor out there. On the work front, Priyanka was last seen in The White Tiger. She will be next seen in Matrix and Text For You.
