Priyanka Chopra is one of the most talented actresses globally and she is heading towards breaking barriers for the South Asian industry in the international space. But The Sky Is Pink actress revealed that she has faced a ton of cynicism from her own South Asian community.

In a recent interview, Priyanka said that she has got a sense of negativity from a lot of people within her South Asian community. While they have been protective towards her but there is also a flip side to it when she gets that negativity from the people who have known her all along.

In an interview with BBC Asian Network’s Beyond Bollywood podcast, Priyanka said, “I do notice a sense of protectiveness from a lot of people but also a sense of cynicism from a lot of people and a sense of negativity from a lot of people. Picking on me for no reason. I was talking about this to Mindy [Kaling] a couple of months ago. We were talking about, “why is it that you get so much negativity from your own community?”

She further added, “‘Very few brown people are in the entertainment business, you can count us on your fingers. We’re trying to create more opportunity for people like us so why is there so much negativity for us? ‘When I started working in Hollywood I realised it’s not normal to people’s consciousness that a leading man or woman can be Indian in a mainstream Hollywood show.”

Priyanka recently launched her book Unfinished in which she has opened up about her journey in Bollywood and also her personal life so far.
