Priyanka Chopra is being paid a whopping amount for ‘Bharat’- details inside

Gender discrimination is prevalent worldwide and Bollywood is no different. Talks about an actress not being paid at par with an actor have been going for a long time. Till date, there is no equality and we don’t see it happening anytime in the near future. But the fact that the actresses are getting paid more than the past is a good sign. Recently, Deepika Padukone topped the list of highest paid actresses in Bollywood. DP charged a whopping amount of 12cr and was granted the same for her film ‘Padmaavat’.

If the latest reports are to be believed, Priyanka Chopra is also getting paid the same amount for her Bollywood comeback film, ‘Bharat’.  A source close to Mi-Day said that Priyanka’s team had initially demanded Rs 14 crore as her remuneration fee. Later, taking into consideration the current industry standards, the deal was locked at Rs 12 crore. Meaning, now PeeCee stands at par with Deepika in terms of highest paid actresses. In a recent interview with an International magazine, the actress spoke about pay disparity. She said, “I feel it every year, especially when you’re doing movies with really big actors, whether it’s in India or America. If an actor is getting 100 bucks, the conversation will start with max, like, 8 bucks. The gap is that staggering. In America, we don’t talk about it as brashly, whereas in India the issue is not skirted around. I’ve been told straight up if it’s a female role in a movie with big, male actors attached, your worth is not really considered as much. It happens in both countries, it’s just that here, it’s hidden behind other things. In America, everyone is so worried about being liable that they don’t want to say anything wrong, but they end up doing it anyway.”

Talking about her comeback film ‘Bharat’, it is slated to release on Eid, 2019.
