Being in the public domain or being a celebrity is a double-edged sword. When you are a public figure, your every move is scrutinised and you are constantly in the media glare. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ wedding totally captured the public imagination.
However, Priyanka and Nick have faced a wrath of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for involving animals during their wedding rituals. As per the report in Daily Mail publication, there was a usage of a horse during the procession (Hindu wedding) that was draped with red and golden embellishments, which Nick Jonas used to ride into the ceremony.
PETA India CEO Manilal Valliyate said in a statement that ‘Priyanka was ill-served by not being advised of the firestorm that would be caused by participating in animal abuse.’ Valliyate added further, “It doesn’t make a person look big or glamorous to promote cruelty to animals who have no choice but to serve.”
PETA India expressed their disappointment over the use of animals in NickYanka’s wedding procession.
Dear @priyankachopra and @nickjonas. Eles 4 weddings live n chains & horses r controlled w whips, spiked bits. Ppl r rejecting ele rides: https://t.co/Gea5jvP6LP & having horse-free weddings. Congrats, but we regret it was not a happy day for animals. pic.twitter.com/p9FFeJ969B
