Businessman and Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra was arrested on July 19 for allegedly producing and distributing pornographic films through mobile applications. On Saturday, the Public prosecutor Aruna Pai had informed the Bombay High Court that 51 pornographic films were seized from the two apps by the Mumbai Crime Branch. The prosecutor also informed that Raj Kundra and his associate Ryan Thorpe were deleting WhatsApp groups and chats and hence destroying the evidence.
Pai told Bombay Hig Court, “Police has seized 51 movies under the Hotshot and Bolly Fame app during their search. Besides, more material was seized from Kundra’s personal laptop, mobile phone, and Storage Area Network (SAN) device.”

He further claimed that Raj and Ryan began deleting evidence instead of cooperating in the investigation, “Instead of co-operating, they started deleting content from the WhatsApp groups and chats. Thus, they started destroying evidence. When an accused starts destroying evidence, the investigating authorities cannot be mute spectators, and they have to prevent them. Therefore to prevent them, they were arrested.”
The prosecutor had also opposed Kundra’s bail application earlier saying that the accused is an influential personality and therefore can intimidate the witnesses which can hamper the probe investigation. Raj has been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
