Purnima claimed that she quit her career to support her husband when he was struggling but he cheated on her when he became successful. In her petition, Purnima said that she met Raghubir at the National School of Drama and after a six-month courtship, they married in 1988 in his village in Jabalpur. She started having a doubt that her husband was cheating on her with one of his co-stars in 1995. Then later, Raghubir himself filed for a divorce but was withdrawn.
