On July 22, actor Rahul Bose took to his Twitter handle to share about the exorbitant price he was charged for just two bananas at JW Marriott hotel located in Sector 35, Chandigarh. Can you believe he was charged Rs 442.50 and Rahul posted the video along with the receipt? Post this, the Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner and Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar ordered a high-level investigation on the GST charged by the hotel.
Brar told Indian Express, “Taking cognisance of the video and bill posted by the actor, I have ordered an investigation. I have directed Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (AETC) Rajeev Chaudhary to conduct a thorough probe on how the hotel had charged GST on fresh fruits. Strict action will be taken if found guilty.”
