Actress Smita Patil left behind a legacy like no other in her short but vibrant career on the big screen. She was known for several hit films like Arth, Manthan, Bhumika, Chakra, Mirch Masala, Bheegi Palkein, and more. She passed away at the early age of 31 of childbirth complications (Puerperal sepsis) in 1986 two weeks after giving birth to her son and Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar.
Today, on her death anniversary, veteran actor Raj Babbar remembered his late wife and shared a gorgeous throwback photo of her on his social media. He also penned a note that read as: “Smita was a noble soul – something which reflected so vividly in her craft. She had a captivating presence but what stood out was her sensitive self. In the short span she had, she touched so many lives & always left an indelible impression. Fondly remembering her today.”

In a career spanning just over a decade, Smita Patil featured in over 80 films. She created a new movement in Indian cinema, though she also appeared in several mainstream movies throughout her career. She also won two National Film Awards. In 1985, she also received the prestigious Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor. She also received two National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.
Smita Patil has worked in Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, and Kannada films in a career that spanned just over a decade. Smita started her career as a television newsreader in Doordarshan. The late actress was among the finest stage and film actresses of her time and one of the greatest film actresses of all time. After her unfortunate demise, over ten of her films were released.
