Rajesh Khanna’s bungalow ‘Aashirwad’ to be demolished

Bollywood veteran Rajesh Khanna`s iconic bungalow `Aashirwad` on Carter Road in Mumbai`s suburb Bandra, will soon be seen only in photographs. The reason being that it’s new owner Shashi Kiran Shetty has decided to demolish the bungalow. The Manglorean who had acquired the bungalow in August 2014 for Rs 90 crore. will demolish it to make way for a three- or four-storey building on the 6,500-square-foot property.

Shashi Kiran Shetty said, “We`ve to redevelop the property since the existing structure is more than 50 years old. The process will start in a couple of months. The name Aashirwad may be kept and will be moving into our new house within 18 months.”

The building`s original name, however, was not Aashirwad. It was called `Dimple,` and before he married Dimple Kapadia, Rajesh Khanna bought the bungalow from the then Jubilee Kumar aka Rajendra Kumar and renamed it Aashirwad.
