Rajkummar Rao and his family were hit by an unfortunate turn of events when the actor’s mother passed away. Rajkummar was filming for his movie Newton in 2017 when he was hit with this shocking news. We sat down for an exclusive chat with Rajkummar Rao where he opened up about his mother’s death. The actor said that he misses his mother every day and there is nothing that can fill in the void. Rajkummar was very close to his mother as he opened up that he is 70 per cent like his mother and 30 per cent like his father.
Rajkummar told Bollywood Bubble, “Of course, I miss her. I miss her every day. Whenever something good or bad happens that is the first thought that comes to your mind. I wish she was there I could share this with her and she would have guided me. Maybe just tell me something which would just clear things in my head. Yeah, I miss her every day.”
Further talking about his mother, Rajkummar said that she was his best friend and he would share the smallest detail with her about his life, “My mom was my best friend. She was somebody who inspired me and she inspires me everyday with the kind of struggles she had to see and to raise us up. She was also someone I would share everything with about a small fight or a case of a girlfriend, I would talk to her about everything. She always stood by me. She gave me that kind of freedom and of course I never misused that freedom. I think with parents also we should not try and control our kids so much. Then they want to go out and try those things. Let them be, then they will know all the responsibilities and they will learn on their own.”
Rajkummar is one of the most sort after actors in Bollywood, but things were not always great for him. The Stree star has seen his fair share of struggle and then some more to reach where he is today. Talking about his mother’s reaction to him taking up acting as a profession, Rao said, “She was very happy. It wasn’t easy at all. This is not easy to manage. But she always was by my side and whenever I would call her she would always say that ‘it will work out, great things will happen with you and dont worry about it’. She knew my passion for my work. She knew that it’s the only thing he can do in his life.”
Rajkummar also revealed that nothing can ever fill that void after his mother’s death, “The only thing that can make me a little happy is if I do good work and make her proud. That is something that she always wanted. My most proud moment was when people would say ‘Yeh Rajkummar ki mummy hai’. She would feel so proud that she would call me immediately. I miss these small things.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Rajkummar Rao will be next in Hum Do Humare with Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, Ratna Pathak. The movie will stream on Disney+Hotstar on 29 October.
