Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and Rishi Kapoor were not only colleagues but also very close friends. Rakesh broke down as soon as Ranbir Kapoor shared the news of his father’s death with him on phone. The filmmaker revealed that he had warned his friend against visiting Delhi in February this year. Rishi had a relapse in the capital and his health worsened afterwards.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, talking about his friend’s demise, Rakesh shared, “Both of us had cancer, though different kinds. I am aware of how infection-prone we are. So when Chintu told me about his plans to go to Delhi in February for a wedding I advised him against it. But he still went and had a relapse there. When I met Chintu he admitted he should’ve listened to me and that he made a mistake by going to Delhi.”
Rishi was hospitalised soon after he landed in Delhi. However, he had brushed off everyone’s concern by saying (to PTI), “I have had an infection which am getting treated. Nothing dramatic. Pollution got me I guess.” Later he was moved back to Mumbai and was admitted in a hospital again as his health deteriorated.

Expressing how lonely he is feeling post his friend’s demise, Rakesh told SpotboyE, “Rishi was in hospital since 3 weeks. I knew since last evening that he is critical, but what could I do? We are living in such frustrating times. I really don’t know what to say, but I must tell you that I am feeling so lonely today. Too many memories and they’re all coming rolling back.”
67-year-old Rishi Kapoor breathed his last on April 30. He was battling cancer for two years.
