The upcoming biopic on NTR has been in the buzz from quite some time now. The most recent news around the film was that Vidya Balan will be playing the role of NTR’s wife, Basavatarakam. Now, there has been another news that Rakul Preet Singh will also be a part of the film and will essay the role of Sridevi.
A report in Deccan Chronicle said, “Rakul was approached for the role and the actress was elated to be part of the project. However, the date clash could be a problem. But things are still in the nascent stage and it’s premature to comment.” The report also stated that the talks are still at an early stage as Rakul Preet might have date issues.
Coming to Sridevi and NTR’s films, when Sridevi was a teenager, she starred in around 14 films with NTR. The films included hits like ‘Justice Chowdhary’, ‘Kondaveeti Simham’, ‘Bobbili Puli’, ‘Vetagaadu’ and others.
Besides Vidya Balan, the biopic also stars Rana Daggubati, Jisshu Sengupta, Keerthy Suresh, Mohan Babu and others. N Balakrishna, NTR’s son will be playing the role of his father in the film.
Talking about what drew her to the film, Vidya Balan, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror said, “I have always been interested in this aspect of how stardom affects the people around the star, and how different people react differently to it. In this case, Basavatarakam was a very private person who held her own despite being the wife of a demi-god. People knew of her but they didn’t know her and that is interesting for me as an actor.”
The biopic which is based on Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, who was fondly called as NTR, is going to be directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. NTR was an Indian actor, producer, director, editor and politician. He had served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years. He has also received three National Film Awards for co-producing ‘Thodu Dongalu’ and ‘Seetharama Kalyanam’ and directing ‘Varakatnam’.
