Veteran actor Ramesh Bhatkar who primarily worked in several Marathi films breathed his last  Tuesday(February 4). The 70-year-old actor was suffering from cancer. Last night the veteran actor’s last rites were held at Shivaji Park. Bhatkar is a renowned Marathi actor but has also appeared in several Hindi television shows and a few Bollywood movies. Bhatkar worked for more than 30 years in both Hindi and Marathi films and is popularly known for his TV series ‘Commander’ and ‘Hello Inspector’.

Bollywood, as well as Marathi celebs, have mourned the death of Ramesh Bhatkar. Actor Ravi Kishan, who was his co-star in TV serial ‘Hello Inspector’ was shocked when he heard the news of the actor’s death. Turning nostalgic, he told Mumbai Mirror, “Back in the day, I used to stay in Bandra and he would come down from Pune to meet me. He was very fit and had a great sense of humour. He appreciated the fact that I was vegetarian and would bring Marathi food, including bhakri, for all of us on the set.”

Bhatkar was last seen in Anupam Kher starrer ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. He played former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in the movie. Vijay Gutte, the director of the film, while talking to the tabloid said, “We shot his scenes last June in Delhi in single takes. We had cast him because we needed a Marathi actor who resembled Prithviraj Chavan and he fit the part. He was always smiling on the set.”
