Rani Mukerji is one of the most accomplished actresses in Bollywood, and her film ‘Hichki’ was appreciated by audiences and critics alike. In the film, Rani played a teacher with a condition called the Tourette’s Syndrome. For her performance, she was called to participate in Rajeev Masand’s ‘The Actresses Roundtable 2018’.
On the show, the topic of #MeToo was brought up, and Rani Mukerji said that women should learn how to defend themselves by learning martial arts. This did not go down too well with the netizens and they mercilessly criticised her. Take a look at some of the tweets here.

Ok. So you can't tell hundreds of mothers that they shouldn't bring up misogynistic sons but you want to tell millions of girls out there to compulsorily learn martial arts and defend themselves? This is nothing but victim shaming and blaming.
Shame on you, Rani Mukerji! https://t.co/cfvn74fzPM— Tardy B (@Sumeetkaur102) December 30, 2018

Well, we would not like to take sides here. However, we think that Rani’s intention was not to shame the victims, but to inspire everyone to learn some form of self-defence. Like Deepika said, “but why to even bring it to the point where girls should learn self-defence.” Men should learn how to respect women, and not feel entitled to use their bodies for their personal gratification.
What do you think about Rani’s statement? Do let us know.
The #MeToo movement came like a Tsunami and shook the entire Bollywood industry. Big names like Sajid Khan, Rajat Kapoor, Alok Nath and Vikas Bahl were accused of sexual harassment. It showcased the dirty side of Bollywood, and we hope that the movement went a long way in ensuring safer workplaces for women.
