Rani Mukerji has completed 25 years in the industry. In her career, Rani has proved her versatility in acting by playing different kinds of characters. She is someone who likes to break the stereotypes and not be moulded in a particular image. As she has done diverse roles, audiences wait for what next she is playing. Rani likes that relationship she has with her audience. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rani revealed that that’s a challenge she has for herself.
Rani has been a rule breaker who has never confined to industry norms. She was someone who delivered a good number in a solo film. Post her marriage, she did Mardaani, Hichki and Mardaani 2, and all three opened well and did a good business. She broke so many rules of ‘mothers and married actors have shelf life’. She has always raised the bar. When asked about it, Rani said, “For me personally, I feel as an actor I have to look like my character and till the day I look like my character and there is a believability there, age is not a factor actually. It is important that with each film or with each character that I play I have to look like that part. If that is in place then I don’t think the audiences should have an issue.“
She added, “From where I see it, there were married actresses back then. I don’t think there is anything new that I am doing. There have been actresses who have worked being pregnant.I have heard stories of them being pregnant and shooting. So, I think it’s just a myth that people think that married actresses or actresses with children can’t really make it in films and there is a shelf life. It is important to create and carve your own niche and space so that people remember you for who you are and they don’t remember you that you were like somebody else.”
Rani Mukerji’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 released on November 19.
