Rani Mukerji has always spelt magic on screen with her brilliant performances. Out of all her movies, Rani’s performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black is known to be her best to date. She played the specially-abled girl Michelle McNally, who has a beautiful and soulful bond with her teacher played by Amitabh Bachchan. Black has clocked 16 years and on its release anniversary, Rani has revealed that she was not sure of doing the movie.

Rani said, “I think at first I was very reluctant to do the film when Sanjay offered me the role. Not because I had any doubts about the film or the character as such because working with Bhansali is a dream for any actor. I had already been a huge fan of his after watching Devdas. So, for me to get an opportunity to work with Bhansali was huge.” She wasn’t very confident that she would be able to pull off the role. She discussed this with Sanjay and asked him, “Sanjay are you sure you are asking me to do this role, I think it is a very difficult part, something which I have not even envisaged ever in my life!”

She also revealed that she was intimidated at first but it was Sanjay’s belief in her and himself as a director that helped them make Black. When Sanjay told her that he believed that she will be able to pull off the character and he will be there with her at every step guiding her, she felt confident.

Rani also thanked SLB as he fulfilled his promise because she went through intense training and learned the sign language and interacted with the impaired people for 6 months and got into the character of Michelle.

On the work front, Rani was last seen in Mardaani 2. She will star in Bunty Aur Babli 2 that has Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari.
