Say What! Ranu Mondal’s biopic in the making; Sudipta Chakraborty offered the part of the internet sensation

Singer Ranu Mondal became an overnight internet sensation in no time. She has already recorded more than a couple of songs with singer-actor-composer Himesh Reshammiya. And guess what? Now a biopic on the viral singer is on the anvil! And National Award-winning Bengali actress Sudipta Chakraborty has been offered the lead role in it.

Confirming the news Sudipta told IANS, “Yes, I have been offered the film. However, I am yet to receive a script. I will decide if I want to play the character only after reading the script.”

The biopic will be titled ‘Platform Singer Ranu Mondal’ and it will be helmed by independent filmmaker Hrishikesh Mondal. The film will document Ranu’s journey from Ranaghat railway station in West Bengal to Bollywood.

Speaking about casting Sudipta, Hrishikesh said, “Sudipta Chakraborty has been approached for the role, but she is yet to give her nod. I think if anyone can pull off the character with perfection, it is Sudipta di. She is a brilliant actress. People are curious to know about Ranu Mondal’s life. She became a singing sensation overnight thanks to social media, so people are very interested to know more about her. Also, the film will highlight the power of social media in the present times, which has turned roadside singer Ranu into a star.”

The filmmaker went on to share that Ranu doesn’t want him to show anything in the film that would hurt her. Talking about Mondal’s cooperation, Hrishikesh shared, “ She has been very cooperative regarding the biopic and has helped me with a lot of information and anecdotes from her life. She is a believer in God and is a very helpful person. I have also spoken to her daughter while writing the script.”

Now it has to be seen if Sudipta signs the biopic or not.
