Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has been making the headlines over the last few days owing to a deepfake video of him going viral on social media. The video in question sees the actor ‘Padmaavat’ actor promoting an Indian political party ahead of the Lok Sabha. While the actor has filed a complaint against the AI-generated video with the Cyber Crime Cell, the latest report reveals an FIR has been filed against an X (formerly Twitter) user.
As per the report, the cyber cell has filed an FIR against an X user over the recent viral deepfake video after Singh’s father also filed a complaint.
FIR filed against X User
As per a recent News 18 report, the Cyber Crime Cell of the Maharashtra Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against an X user for allegedly uploading Ranveer Singh’s Deepfake video. This FIR was registered after the actor’s father, Jugjeet Singh Bhavnani, filed a complaint against X user @sujataindia.
The FIR has been registered under relevant Indian Penal Code sections, including section 417 (cheating), section 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and section 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation), and provisions of the Information Technology Act, the official said.

For the unversed, a video recently went viral on social media showing the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actor promoting a political party. The video, captured during the actor’s visit to Varanasi for designer Manish Malhotra’s show along with Kriti Sanon, shows the actor appealing to people to vote for Congress. As per the FIR, the original video has Ranveer saying, “It is Modi ji’s purpose and goal to celebrate our rich culture, heritage, history, and legacy because we are moving ahead towards modernity very fast but we should never forget our roots, our cultural heritage.”
However, as per the FIR, the deepfake video shared by X account holder @sujataindia1st has Ranveer Singh saying, “It is Modi ji’s purpose and goal to celebrate our painful life, fear, and unemployment because we are moving ahead towards injustice but we should never stop asking for our development and justice, vote for justice, vote for Congress.”
Mumba Police has also registered an FIR against an unidentified person in connection with a similar deepfake video of Aamir Khan. This video also sees the Bollywood superstar promoting a political party.
