Ranveer Singh is a man who follows his guts and takes a stand no matter what. The ‘Padmaavat’ actor is known to ruffle quite a few feathers with his statement and actions and always believes in calling out hypocrisy.
The whole #MeToo movement in India, as of now, is losing momentum and steam. However, it had the desired result of exposing and shaming sexual offenders in the public domain.
Now, the ‘Lootera’ actor has weighed in on this very sensitive issue and has taken a perfectly clear stand. According to a report in PinkVilla, he said, “The #MeToo movement was historic, revolutionary. It has made guys take stock and think and, that itself, is a big thing. It has been hugely impactful and significant. It was happening all too fast, quickly. It was a revolution.  You had perpetrators who aren’t working anymore. It made a huge impact from where I stand. In my perception, what the movement should have done, I think it has. It has changed to a large extent the way men think.”
The Bollywood industry faced a lot of flak when Tanushree Dutta came up with her allegations against Nana Patekar and no big star took a clear-cut stand at the beginning.
Ranveer further stated, “Every man thinks twice, they are afraid. They think if they do something wrong, it is going to be called out. It had made a huge impact at the ground level. We have, for the longest time, lived in a patriarchal society. Men feel very entitled in their species, in my surroundings at least. Fortunately, I have had an upbringing, my father has always been out, so I was raised by four women, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, so I have a different way of looking at it.”
During the wedding festivities, Ranveer was very sensitive and caring, when Deepika was getting emotional and he stood like a rock.
Ranveer Singh has proven that he is a man who believes in equality, fairness and gender justice. We need many more men like Ranveer, who can call out patriarchy and misogyny in the public domain.
