Ranveer Singh recalls what Aditya Chopra told him after seeing his audition for Band Baaja Baarat: He said, I saw a 25-year career in front of me

Ranveer Singh is one of the biggest names in the Hindi film industry today. The actor has given some of the biggest critical and commercial blockbusters in the last 12 years. But it was all made possible by filmmaker Aditya Chopra, who launched a talent like Ranveer Singh.

The new Netflix series, The Romantics, chronicles the journey of filmmakers Yash Chopra and son Aditya. It documents how the two made Yash Raj Films one of the biggest brands in the film business. In doing that, the two took some risky decisions as well. One of them was taken by Aditya Chopra when he decided to launch newcomer Ranveer Singh with Band Baaja Baarat (BBB).

How Ranveer Singh came in discussion for Band Baaja Baarat

Ranveer Singh made his acting debut with BBB. However, the process to bag the project wasn’t a smooth one for Ranveer. In The Romantics, the actor recalled that he had met YRF’s casting director Shanoo Sharma at a party, after which they became friends. She suggested his name to Aditya for BBB, but the filmmaker wasn’t convinced. “He really didn’t look good. I fired Shanoo. I asked her, ‘What’s wrong with you?’,” said Aditya.

Bhumi Pednekar took Ranveer’s audition

But he changed his stance after seeing Ranveer’s audition. And the actor credits Bhumi Pednekar for that, who was an assistant to Shanoo at that time. He said, ““The only reason I was able to give a good audition was because she was performing the scene with me.” Ranveer received the call back the same evening of his audition. But what followed wasn’t smooth.

Ranveer’s disastrous round of auditions for BBB

Ranveer admitted that the next few rounds of auditions and readings that happened with co-actor Anushka Sharma and director Maneesh Sharma, were indeed ‘disastrous’. But it also led to Ranveer’s first meeting with Aditya who came to see him. He shared, “Adi sir asked me, ‘Why are you screwing it up?’. He told me, ‘When I saw your audition, I saw a 25-year career in front of me. I’ve not seen an audition like that’.” Getting overwhelmed remembering the story, the actor revealed that hearing these words, he fell on his knees and cried.

Even after the ‘disastrous’ auditions, Aditya decided to cast Ranveer, and what happened after is history. Today, the actor is ruling the Hindi film industry and it is all because of the faith Aditya showed in him.
