It was just yesterday that the announcement was made about Ranveer Singh featuring in a film based India’s 1983 World Cup win, wherein he will be essaying the character of the then Indian cricket team captain, Kapil Dev. Following this, we have now learnt that Ranveer is going to meet all the cricket players who were the part of the team in the year 1983. As per the reports, Ranveer will meet the legends and start preparing for the film.
Madhu Mantena, the co-founder of Phantom films, has quoted been saying, “It’s a great feeling to start work on this incredible story of the Indian cricket team of 1983. We are feeling very blessed that we are starting this journey along with the heroes of 1983. We are thankful to all the players for taking out time from their schedules and joining us for this event.”
This film is being directed by ‘Tubelight’ director Kabir Khan and is being produced by Phantom films. Kapil Dev too is expected to be a part of this meeting.
Earlier in an statement, Kabir Khan had stated that he sees no one else than Ranveer Singh to play Kapil Dev. “As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onward cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script,” he had said. (Also Read: Ahem!
