EXCLUSIVE: Ratna Pathak Shah on more women getting roles above a certain age now: We are important segment of the paying public

Ratna Pathak Shah is one of the most versatile actresses in the industry. Ratna Pathak Shah will be seen in the web series Happy Family: Conditions Apply with Raj Babbar. The veteran actress recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble and spoke about increased roles for women above a certain age in Bollywood. Ratna Pathak, who is known to speak her mind, was at her candid best.

Ratna on increased roles for women

Ratna Pathak Shah got candid as she told us, “I think definitely it’s a reality and there are several reasons for that. For one, we are a very important segment of the paying public. Humare pass maal hai aur aurton ke pass abhi maal hai (We have money and women nowadays have money) Toh you will have to please me. You will have to tell me stories which I find interesting. I don’t find Madmax and that whole violent world interesting. You will have to tell me stories that I like because I’m paying for it. It’s a very big important fact.”

The veteran actress added, “Second thing, there are so many of us, right? And third, we have finally gotten out of this totally stereotypical formulaic mindset of making a story. Ek hi kahaani chapte jao, chapte jao television mein, movies mein, har jagah ek hi chapte jao.”

Furthermore, while talking about OTT, Ratna Pathak Shah said, “OTT has been a superb disruptor. It has shaken everybody up. It’s made a lot of people realise that they are becoming dinosaurs. It has thrown out the fossils and I will become a fossil also very soon and I should equally be thrown out but till I’m there I’m going to keep trying and I’m going to do something different as much as I can. That I think is the most important part of the creative process. The desire to do something more and better than what you’ve done before.”
