Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in relation to the drug probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Rhea has been in judicial custody for the past 14 days and the actress along with her brother sought bail from the Bombay High Court recently. Rhea’s lawyer said that the drug probe should be transferred to the CBI as the NCB has no jurisdiction.
According to a report by Times of India, Rhea’s counsel Satish Maneshinde has submitted that the serious offence of “financing illicit traffic and harbouring” under section 27A of the NDPS Act should only be looked at as commercial. He also said that the offence is bailable as no drugs were found in possession and all the allegations only pertain to a small quantity.

The NCB had arrested 16 people in total related to the drug probe and Rhea was called a member of the drug syndicate for allegedly procuring small quantities for the late actor. Rhea’s lawyer also further asked for the case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He said, “Based on the Supreme Court judgement transferring the (death) case to CBI, all future cases should also go to the CBI,” Maneshinde further added, “under a 1988 gazette CBI is empowered to investigate drug cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). Thus, the investigation carried out till now is illegal.”
The actress’s bail plea also further said, “None of the accused connected to her have remotely been found to be in possession of anything beyond small quantity.”
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court has adjourned the hearing for Rhea’s bail till September 29 and Rhea Chakraborty is expected to be in Byculla Jail for the time being.
