Rhea Chakraborty’s mother Sandhya: My family’s not just been pushed to a corner, it’s been destroyed

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family has accused Rhea Chakraborty of abetment of suicide, money laundering and cheating the late actor. Rhea was even arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 8 related to the case filed under various sections of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. The 28-yeat-old actress was finally granted bail by the Bombay High Court on October 8.

After almost spending a month in the Byculla Jail, Rhea returned to her home yesterday. The actress’ mother Sandhya Chakraborty in a recent interview to Times of India (TOI), said that her family has been destroyed. Sandhya also opened up about how she even contemplated suicide.

Speaking about how her daughter Rhea has gone through so much, Sandhya told TOI, “What she has gone through… how will she heal from this? But she is a fighter and she must be strong. I’ll have to put her on therapy to help her get over this trauma and reclaim her life.” Revealing how Rhea asked them to be strong upon her return from jail, Sandhya said, “Yet, even after she came home, she looked at us and said: ‘Why do you look sad, we have to be strong and fight this’.”

Though Rhea has been granted bail, her brother Showik is still in jail. Rhea’s mother said that she couldn’t even sleep thinking about her children suffering in jail. At one point she even contemplated suicide but eventually decided to be strong as her family needs her.

“While it’s a relief she’s out of prison, it’s crazy it’s still not over. My son is still behind bars and I’m paranoid about what tomorrow will bring. I can’t sleep on the bed anymore when my children are suffering in jail. I can’t eat. I wake up in the middle of the night, gripped by a fear of the next thing that could go wrong. My family’s not just been pushed to a corner, it’s been destroyed. At one point I thought the only way to end it was by ending my life. I’m not this kind of a person, you know. I’ve sought therapy for myself. Now when these feelings appear, I keep reminding myself I need to be there for my children. They’re going through far worse,” revealed the actress’ mother to the leading daily.

Sandhya even refuted rumours of Rhea meeting Sushant on June 13.  She said that the investigative agency can verify that by checking Sushant’s location via cell towers.

Rhea’s mother is a former schoolteacher whereas her father Indrajit Chakraborty has served as a surgeon in the Armed Forces for 24 years. Apart from Rhea, even her parents were named in the FIR filed by Sushant’s family.
