The Central Government’s decision to appoint Prasoon Joshi as the new Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification has surely left many celebrities relieved, especially those who have advocated in a free form of making movies. And amongst those who support this decision is actress Richa Chadha. The actress who was promoting the teaser launch of her forthcoming flick ‘Jia Aur Jia’ spoke at the event about how the CBFC Board led by Pahlaj Nihalani made room for dissatisfaction and she hopes for a change now.
She spoke to IANS and said, “I hope they change the rules not just the members. There was lot of dissatisfaction with the previous person (Nihalani). So, I feel this is the right step taken in the right direction. I hope films evolve now and stay liberal because there is no point in censoring it.” (Also Read:Pahlaj Nihalani: I can understand Anurag Kashyap feeling happy about my departure)
Her co-actress from ‘Jia Aur Jia’, Kalki Koechlin also expressed her happiness over the appointment of the new Chairperson Prasoon Joshi. She said, “Congratulations to both Prasoon Joshi and Vidya Balan. It’s wonderful to have such respectable members of our film community on the board. I am looking forward to their opinions and decisions.”
Talking about their movie ‘Jia Aur Jia’, it depicts the story of two women who meet as strangers, but eventually become really close friends and embark on a life changing road trip.
Coming back to the point, Pahlaj Nihalani recently spoke about being ousted from the CBFC. He said in an interview with IANS, “I had been preparing myself for my exit for months now. Actually, from the time I came in there have been elements working against me, some of them from within the CBFC. These elements – I am not going to name them on-record – are currently celebrating premature Diwali. Unnka toh tyohaar mere jaane se ho gaya (they are in a festive mood because of my ouster).”
